I recently updated the firmware on my router for security reasons... But, I wasn't able to carry over the configuration; too much had changed in how the firmware works. I got it all reconfigured, except one thing... I forgot to forward port 25 to my mail server. Was scratching my head for quite a while until I realized my mistake. I added the forward, and immediately started receiving junk mail again. Y'all, I've never been so happy to receive junk mail in my life! 🤣 #networking #oops

@aral You've been running your private instance for a while now, and I'm considering starting my own as well. Could you share with me some information about your server? Like how much disk space its database and media cache take up, how fast they've been growing over time, how much network traffic it sees from federation, etc.I'm trying to evaluate the feasibility of running on my own hardware from my residential internet connection.

Just finished reading volume 1 of "Sideways" by @idiotvera . I'm already hooked on the story and looking forward to volume 2.It's a story about Abigail, a #trans woman barely surviving in a big city until she tries to take a shortcut to work through an alley she hadn't noticed before, and finds herself stuck in a new world full of magic. In volume one, we follow her as she meets her first friend in this new world and starts making sense of it all.I highly recommend giving it a read!
